So how about them romans?

So back in Rome at about 136, the emperor Hadrian needed a successor so he adopted this guy named Commodus. Then the guy died. So then he adopts a guy named Pius.

Pius becomes the next emperor and adopts two boys; Marcus Aurelius and Commodus (Son of the first Commodus) who is refered to as Verus .

Marcus Aurelius become emperor and had two sons. Their names are Annius Verus and Commodus.

Bastards.

lulz

If I ever had any doubts about my University choice or my intelligence level just looking at the quote (of a girl who goes to my university mind you) and I fell a lot better.

girl: so like, what are you taking?
guy: philosophy...
girl: so, you're like, a phil- ...oso-gist?
guy: uh... it's "philosopher."

*pause*

girl: oooh! so you make stones!
guy: what do you mean?
girl: like in that harry potter movie... [harry potter and the 'philosopher's stone']
guy: :| ...yes.
girl: WOW.

Brilliant. Thank you unknown person for making me laugh.

A confession and a new love.

Confession:

I am a Farmville addict. I can no longer pretend it is simply a fun game or "hobby". It has become an addiction. I can't go a day without out checking my farm at least once. Please don't judge.

New Love:

U2. Not that I didn't already like their music before but I now have a new appreciation and respect for them. Seeing them live in concert definitely is one of the factors for my new love (especially seeing Bono and seeing how good looking he is... seriously) but also just listening to their music more leading up to their concert and realizing how amazing it actually is.

And now I'm going to go listen to it some more U2 music while I play Farmville.

So today I was going through old survey type blogs that I had on my computer from my high school days. I found one where it gave you a bunch of statements relating to a certain personality type and you had to bold all the ones that applied to you. At the end the 3 sections that had the most bolded statements were the 3 personality types that described you best.

I took this back in 11th grade and the 3 I had were slacker, thespian and prep which for my 16/17 year old self sounds about right. I wanted to re-do the thing now to see if that had changed and The first category I looked at was the nerd category. When I saw it though I wanted to cry.

"Nerd

You actually study for tests and quizzes-mostly (X)
You have/had straight As
You haven't had any luck with the opposite sex
You are into WOW, Magic Cards, and Halo
You overanalyze jokes to the point where they aren't funny anymore
Your mom buys your clothes for you
You actually answer the questions in class (X)
You sit front row center in all of your classes to get the best learning experience
You miss school during the summer
You wear your pants at your waist
You prefer sweatpants to jeans (X)
You have a pocket protector in your shirt with pens and a calculator in it
You let cute boys/girls take advantage of you & copy your homework
You've noticed fixed some of the spelling and grammar mistakes in this survey
People cheat off you on tests
Your parents pack your lunch for you every day
You wear/should be wearing glasses (X)
Total: "

Apparently these statements are what makes someone a nerd. Now maybe to the vast majority of society this is what makes someone a nerd. But to me, a nerdfighter, I find these statements slightly ridiculous and ridiculously false. It kind of makes me sad.

Tim Burton and Alice in Wonderland... Together?

Let's do some math. What happens when you combine these things:

1) Tim Burton
2) Johnny Depp
3) Alice in Wonderland
4) Movie Making Magic

You pretty much get what looks to be one of the most amazing/crazy/epic movies for 2010. If you haven't go watch the teaser trailer on youtube. I'm pretty damn excited. For one I love Alice in Wonderland. All the symbolism and the twisted settings of the story fascinate me. Two it has Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp!!! And three whenever Tim Burton and Johnny Depp do something together (movie wise of course... get you mind out of the gutter) it always promises to be interesting in one way or another.

I think what I liked most is from the trailer and from all the pictures that have come off the set ,of costumes and such, they all go to the extremes. I think my favorite so far has been the queen of hearts. Just ... wow. So in short. March 5th of 2010 please come sooner.

Also Vancouver... where did this thunder and lightning come from?

Those books lists always get me.

You know those things that you set out to and then a little ways in wonder what made you want to do it in the first place? They are always those things that in your head just sound so good to say you completed it. They are the things that either define who you are or who you want to be. They are usually somewhat ridiculous and yet important goals to you.

I personally have a few of these things.

The first one I started at the beginning of the year. I said that by the end of the year I want to have read 100 books. I got the idea from the 50 book challenge but I knew 50 wasn't enough so I said I would read 100. Now nearing the end of just I am only a few books short of 50 but I'm starting to wonder how I am going to read 50 more books.

The second thing I started only a few weeks ago. This one has no specific deadline but holds some interesting endeavors. It is yet again a reading list. The list was created by BBC and holds 100+ different books titles which they believed most people wouldn't have read more than 6 of. I decided I wanted to completely disprove this fact 100% and I am now going to try and read all of the books on this list.

Both these things define who I am, but also who I want to be. Reading a ridiculous amount in a year has always been a big part of me since I was a child. By giving myself the challenge to read 100 books in a year I pretty much am letting that part of myself become more prominent in my life. The books list made up by BBC defines a great amount of who I want to be. The list is full of classic novels that I have never read and frankly have been scared to attempt to read. Books like David Copperfield and Jane Eyre and Sense and Sensibility have always scared me to death and yet I have always wanted to be one of those people who can read and appreciate these types of books. So even though the idea of having to read some of these books will probably haunt me in some of my dreams I think that if I push through I will slowly become the type of person that I see myself as being.

Moral of the story-  Keep doing what your doing. You'll thank yourself later.
